Hosea 7

Ephraim’s Iniquity

1When I awould heal Israel,
The iniquity of Ephraim is uncovered,
And the evil deeds of Samaria,
For they deal bfalsely;
The thief enters in,
cBandits raid outside,
2And they do not
Lit say to their heart
consider in their hearts
That I eremember all their wickedness.
Now their fdeeds are all around them;
They are before My face.
3 gWith their wickedness they make the hking glad,
And the princes with their ilies.
4They are jall adulterers,
Like an oven heated by the baker
Who ceases to stir up the fire
From the kneading of the dough until it is leavened.
5On the
I.e. a festive occasion
day of our king, the princes lbecame sick with the heat of wine;
He stretched out his hand with mscoffers,
6For their hearts are like an noven
As they approach their
Lit ambush
plotting;
Their
So with some ancient versions; M.T. baker
anger
Lit sleeps
smolders all night,
In the morning it burns like a flaming fire.
7All of them are hot like an oven,
And they consume their rrulers;
All their kings have fallen.
sNone of them calls on Me.

8Ephraim tmixes himself with the
Lit peoples
nations;
Ephraim has become a cake not turned.
9 vStrangers devour his strength,
Yet he wdoes not know it;
Gray hairs also are sprinkled on him,
Yet he does not know it.
10Though the xpride of Israel testifies against him,
Yet ythey have not returned to the Lord their God,
Nor have they sought Him, for all this.
11So zEphraim has become like a silly dove, aawithout
Lit heart
sense;
They call to acEgypt, they go to adAssyria.
12When they go, I will aespread My net over them;
I will bring them down like the birds of the sky.
I will afchastise them in accordance with the
Lit report
proclamation to their assembly.
13 ahWoe to them, for they have aistrayed from Me!
Destruction is theirs, for they have rebelled against Me!
I ajwould redeem them, but they speak lies against Me.
14And akthey do not cry to Me from their heart
When they wail on their beds;
For the sake of grain and new wine they
Or with Gr and many ancient mss gash themselves
,
amassemble themselves,
They anturn away from Me.
15Although I trained and strengthened their arms,
Yet they aodevise evil against Me.
16They turn, but not
Or possibly to the Most High
upward,
They are like a aqdeceitful bow;
Their princes will fall by the sword
Because of the
Lit indignation; or cursing
,
asinsolence of their tongue.
This will be their atderision in the land of Egypt.
